Clinical trials portfolio

When considering which funder to apply to, you may wish to consider whether funding from that source will leave your study eligible for adoption into the UKCRN Portfolio. The UKCRN Portfolio comprises the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN), the Scottish CRN, Northern Ireland CRN and the NISCHR Clinical Research Infrastructure, each of which has specific eligibility criteria.

NIHR Clinical Research Network

As of 1 June 2010 the NIHR Coordinated System for gaining NHS Permission (CSP) is the sole entry point for studies applying for inclusion on the NIHR Clinical Research Network (CRN) Portfolio. This is done via Integrated Research Application System (IRAS).

Devolved nations’ CRN eligibility criteria

In addition to the NIHR in England the CRNs in the devolved nations have specific criteria, based on funding sources, to determine whether the study is eligible for inclusion in the UKCRN Portfolio and in turn to receive infrastructural support.
